Hunting in France

For those who cannot imagine life without hunting, as well as for those who are taking or about to take their first steps in it, K&V France invites you to try your hand at hunting and fishing in France.

Hunting in France on estates near Paris, with a personal guide.

The hunter's instinct… Many people do not understand it. Indeed, nobody understands someone prepared to stand for hours with a gun, often in the winter cold, waiting for their quarry. Nobody, that is, except another such person standing beside them. For these people, hunting is not the mindless killing of animals but an active pursuit that calls for real skill, agility and dexterity.

Ask any number of hunters which game they prefer and you will hear as many opinions. Some love hunting birds (duck, pheasant, partridge); others dream of a red deer, a mouflon or a wild boar as a trophy. In the latter case it is not even about value, the hide or the delights of the meat. For any self-respecting hunter, a large and agile animal is simply an adversary worthy of a hero. Hunters who prepare for the hunt with intelligence and care naturally command particular respect.

With K&V France you can be confident that your hunt will be organised to the highest standard, with every safety precaution taken and in full compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements: the hunt takes place in another country, and taking part requires observing certain rules. The K&V France team will help you with insurance, advise you on the best dates for hunting, and assist with hiring and/or transporting firearms. Anyone who has hunted even once in their life and felt the thrill and the adrenaline will never forget it. If you cannot wait to experience all the pleasures of hunting in France, there is still time: the hunting season traditionally runs until the end of February. The most popular quarry in France is pheasant and hare.

Hunting on several estates in France

1. A hunting estate 220 km from Paris, near the historic city of Reims and the Champagne Route

Hunting season: October to the end of February.

Red deer, mouflon, wild boar, pheasant and partridge

Number of hunters: 5 to 20.

Firearms: guns can be hired. The estate owners take care of hunting licences and insurance covering all risks. The necessary permits in France take about a week to arrange (before your arrival). You may bring your own guns to France if you wish, but hunters will usually need about a month to obtain all the permits and the special visa required to transport firearms.

Price: on request (the price varies according to the number of hunters, the number of animals taken and other factors).

Facilities: hunters are taken to the hunting grounds in special wagons. You can stay overnight on the estate, or 10 km away in a 3-, 4- or 5-star hotel (as you prefer) or in a manor house.

What makes this estate special

It is ideal for a group of hunters who enjoy both big game and bird shooting. It is best to come for several days so that you have time to visit Reims, a town whose many cultural and architectural monuments have deservedly earned it the national title of “Town of Art and History”. Be sure to set aside at least one day to drive along the Champagne Route, visit the cellars and taste genuine French wine that the winemakers make not for export but “for themselves”. Taste the difference!

2. A hunting estate close to the capital, just 67 km from Paris

If you are a busy person, its proximity to the Paris airports means you can fly in for a weekend's hunting, or even for a single day.

Hunting season: November to the end of February.

Wild boar

Number of hunters: 10 to 20.

Firearms: all the necessary hunting permits are arranged quickly.

Price: on request (the price varies according to the number of hunters, the number of animals taken and other factors).

Facilities: overnight accommodation is available on site (9 comfortable bedrooms), and the estate can host receptions, weddings and celebrations.

What makes this estate special

The estate's spacious reception hall makes it possible to hold a conference or a meeting with business partners. The estate has its own stables and offers riding lessons and equestrian activities for adults and children alike. The hunting lodge has a bar and a billiards room.

The estate has a helipad, and its vast grounds make it a wonderful setting for a fireworks display, a cabaret performance or a large-scale show in the reception hall.

3. Another superb hunting estate, also very close to Paris – just some 70 km from the capital

Hunting season: November to the end of February.

Big game (November–February); birds all year round.

Number of hunters: 1 to 10.

Firearms: all the necessary hunting permits are arranged quickly.

Price:

  • Mouflon and deer hunting: on request. The fee per animal varies according to the weight and age of the animal (wild boar) and the size of the antlers (deer). You can also order a gastronomic lunch by a Michelin-starred chef and stay overnight in comfortable, cosy rooms in the château, from 205 per night.
  • Bird shooting: on request. The price includes breakfast, a gastronomic lunch and an aperitif on your return from the hunt.

Facilities: hunters are taken to the hunting grounds in electric vehicles.

What makes this estate special

The estate's signature is the colourful Chinese pheasant, found on only a handful of estates in France; there are also partridges and big game – mouflon and deer. You can fly in by helicopter (there is a helipad). 4 rooms on the first floor and 3 rooms in the annexe next door offer excellent accommodation for hunters (as well as for couples and families with children). After the hunt you can take part in a wine masterclass and sample a variety of dishes (including, if the hunters wish, their own game) at a gastronomic dinner (from 585 euros, rising depending on the wine ordered). The perfect end to a day's hunting: an evening with friends in the drawing room by a huge fireplace, glass of wine in hand.

France's hunting estates can satisfy the most demanding hunters, offering an exceptionally wide choice of game and birds, including wild boar, red deer and fallow deer, as well as duck, pheasant and partridge. Contact the K&V France team for any details you need. We are always happy to answer all your questions and to help you organise a truly exhilarating hunt that you will thoroughly enjoy and long remember!
